How to move a ms sql database from local computer to godaddy hosted site.

Godaddy hosted windows  4GH Legacy site.

I created a ms sql backup file on local machine and moved it to the hosted site db_backups and did  a database restore. I am working on a new website and I need to get database changes moved to Godaddy site. Below is the log from the restore.

    Database:xxxxxxxxx
    Source File: \\50.63.197.204\G$\Hosting\47\13965747\html\_db_backups\xxxxxxxx.bak
    Date: 06/13/16 06:28:25
    Status Code: 2000
    Error Type: BakFileCheckFailedException
Error Details: The file to be restored (\\50.63.197.204\G$\Hosting\47\13965747\html\_db_backups\xxxxxxx.bak) failed the security check and cannot be restored.

Files to be restored must adhere to the following guidelines:
     (1) Only files created through the web interface may be restored.
(2)Files modified after creation may not be restored.

    Hello gdlarson1,

If restoring your database is not working for you, you might want to try using the SQL Server Data Tools from Microsoft. These tools has a functionality called Schema Compare, which allows you to compare the schema of a source database and a destination database, and pass any changes from the source to the destination. The databases does not need to be on the same server; you will be prompted to enter the connection string information for both DBs.

    Hey @gdlarson1,

First let me say welcome to the community! Looking forward to our future discussions together. Smiley Happy

So as part of the criteria mentioned in that log, the database backup you're trying to restore from has to be a backup file that was also created within the backup/restore tools within your Legacy hosting plan. If it is; but it's been updated/modified since creation, you won't be able to use the restore function in this manner.

Instead, you'll have to import data from the backup into a new database account. You should be able to accomplish this through the steps in Importing SQL Server Database Objects
