Private Domain SSL

I would like to secure "mysub.mydomain.mytld" for use by my employees but GD says its an "invalid" domain. I've tried OV and UCC certs and gotten the same error (for the UCC I tried putting a public name-space domain in first and my private as a SAN but no dice. Then the chat bot folks told me this morning (GD customer service) that I could do what I want with a wildcard cert? Why would that follow different rules? Has anyone been able to use a WC cert to secure intranet domains with a "2-dot" name? How? Thx!!!

Based on my quick google searching - a typical "public" SSL Certificate is not available / will not work on a private / non-public domain - as it has something to do with the root certificates.

I googled for Private SSL certificate and found there were 2 results / companies that specifically talked about issuing certificate for internal networks / domains.
