Domain forwarding not working

It worked for a while but now it will not forward to any website, when I visit my url it is just a blank page.

I'm trying to redirect it to http://imgur.com/a/EayDC

I'm forwarding with masking as a 302 temporary.

@rolandj24, What is the website domain you are trying to forward?

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Hey @rolandj24,

Have you double checked the DNS settings on your domain name? Usually the wrong nameservers or IP address in use on your domain name are the likely culprits preventing your domain name from being forwarded with our Forwarding & Masking services.

i too wonder this ^^

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Same issue with masking. The content actually returns. I tried with 301 permanent and 302 temporary as the redirect codes. The frame is not loading content. When I check the page source, it is there. When I look at Firebug, the html is being returned but not displayed. I think they broke their HTML code. The same result, a blank page but the redirect returns something, is shown on Chrome and Edge as well.

Please fix this GoDaddy. We are just starting to get customers so if you wouldn't mind fixing your VPS OS installs to be full rips rather than half baked that would be cool too. I spent 5 hours building up Ubuntu into what it ships as and fixing a whole bunch of stuff that while you may have thought was cool to change or rip out, actually makes things work.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

I spoke with GoDaddy customer support about this same issue today.  This is an ongoing issue affecting many customers based on a google search and forum posts.  I'm having the same problem.

Your redirect 301 works fine, sometimes.  But sometimes it redirects to the URL we've set but adds some characters at the end and we end up on a 404 error page.  Then if you type the URL again you go to the proper place.

Example:
Supposed to redirect to: https://xxx.com

Sometimes GoDaddy's glitch will redirect to: https://xxx.com/xrlq  -(it adds a forward slash and random letters different each time it happens, thus sending the visitor to the sever's 404 error page.  But again, if you type the URL a second time, it will go to the right place.  But this process will repeat each time the URL being redirected is used.

This is happening on all browsers and I've had customers report it from all over the world.  GoDaddy's solution was to do what all companies do, blame the customer and ask a bunch of silly questions about checking the DNS etc.  This all used to work fine, and now there's an issue.  Until GoDaddy actually checks to see if they have a glitch in their redirect system it will continue.

No matter to me, I've gotten around it.  I added a redirect code to my site's 404 error page, so now when GoDaddy's system screws up and sends people to my 404 error page they auto redirect to the page they're supposed to be going to.  Not everyone can do this, nor should they have to.

Please note, I'm not a computer novice.  This is a real issue that GoDaddy needs to address.  I realize the company cannot publicly admit they have a major issue.  But YOU DO... and you need to have some higher up technicians look into it.  You have an issue or glitch in your redirect system.  It's likely a small piece of server code that someone overlooked.  It's there, and it's real.  The fact that I got more than 50 customer complaints about this issue, and had to go to the effort to add a redirect code to my site's 404 error page to get around it, proves it.

Stop blaming the customer, and take it from me, a computer and networking technician for over 25 years, YOU HAVE AN ISSUE!!  Please fix it...  Fix it quietly if you want.. I don't care..  Just get someone on it for god's sake..

Thanks.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Same exact problem as previous author.... Forwarding not working for any of my domains maintained by Godaddy

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Have about 14 domains managed by godaddy all of them that are forwarded, both with and without masking, are not working. Any info on how long it will take to correct this problem? This issue is costing a big chunk of revenue and im sure i'm not alone.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Forwarding not working for us either. Godaddy: this is fraud.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Yes, I got same issue.

I need to know why it come ? how to solved ?

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Same as you.

I set forward to www.xxx.com/AAAA  but sometime it goto random subdomain, sometime work

www.xxx.com/AAAA/aDrx

www.xxx.com/AAAA/VmiVZ/

Why ?

How to solve it ?

Re: Domain forwarding not working

This going to be fixed anytime soon? Pretty ridiculous this is still a problem...

Re: Domain forwarding not working

I am having the same problem. I have got mangoidiots.com redirected to my domain say ACME.COM, it gets redirected to ACME.COM/i124, the last 4 characters randomly changing. I have now tried to delete all entries in DNS and readd forward, will see how it goes.

The above problem for me occurs only in mobile browsers both in iOS & Android. In PC redirection works fine in Edge/Chrome/Firefox.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

I am having exactly the same issue with GoDaddy forwarding

This is unacceptable and in my case, the sub-domain is forwarded to weebly.com with some random characters attached to the end of the URL and yielded 404 error.

Hard to believe GoDaddy would make such stupid mistakes.  Is GoDaddy hacked?

Re: Domain forwarding not working

GoDaddy's protestations to the contrary, it really is their problem. Myriad people with different hosts are experiencing this anomaly. Although not a permanent fix, this workaround should work for folks using forwarding with masking. Along with adding the "www" to the domain name, inserting a "?" after the URL (www.website.com/?) will cause the web page to display as expected.

The letters added by GoDaddy are a "query string" (Google it for more info). In this case, domain forwarding, adding the ? causes the server to ignore what follows the ? and you'll actually see the desired web page. For example, www.website.com/? may return www.website.com/?WFOIJ in the browser location bar, but the actual web page will be displayed instead of the dreaded 404 Not Found. You can test this by entering "bing.com/?12345" into your browser. The URL will show "http://www.bing.com/?12345" but only the index page for Bing will display. This is just a workaround and GoDaddy definitely needs to get this fixed.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

I have the same problem. I'm trying to redirect:

http(s)://www.mysite.com

to:

http(s)://www.mynewsite.com

When I do this, the A name record becomes "FORWARDED", but it doesn't forward clients using desktop or mobile browsers.

At the moment, I'm had to add a .htaccess file to mysite.com with the following redirect:

Redirect 301 / https://www.mynewsite.com

While this "works", it's not good for SEO, as when folks search for my site on Google, the first result is https://www.mysite.com instead of https://www.mynewsite.com.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

I am trying this (From JMGraham). I'm forwarding a domain to an appointment/booking page and I just tried it and it gave me a 404 error after telling a client to "go to my domain and signup"! LOL whoops. Felt Dumb AF. GoDaddy really needs to fix this as it's a bit of a disaster. What if you have ad-word campaigns sending to these domains? Yikes.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

same issue my domain mbahunt.com is taking 1 min to forward to my website: mbahunt.in and some times adding weird letters after the link. Can you share a link where I can find the 404 page solution you used. Please help.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

I agree. GoDaddy services are bad at best. Their redirect and DNS updates are intermittent as best. Their management page loads are intermittent and whether operations actually get sent into the queue is haphazard. Their support on the phone is a waste of time -- listening to some novice type keywords into his computer to pull up the same help documents that I used prior to my call. For a service that scales as much as website hosting and domain registration you would think they'd take care of their customers. I wish I used a different service or my service was free.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

I wish everything were free and I was an all powerful wizard.

I also wish I hadn't read this thread of whiners who would rather blame someone else than take any responsibility for their own inadequacies.  But you know what, if you were all more adept at using technology you could create your own GoDaddy website.  Until then, you're still a consumer and have options.  Either use GoDaddy or don't.  Quit yer bitchin.  This is a support community and I don't support listening to your complaints.  I'm looking for answers and clearly none of you have any.

Re: Domain forwarding not working

Hello!

When domains are setup for forwarding, they have the option to Mask their domain to cover up the destination URL. Many companies prevent masking as it is their way of ensuring they are given credit for the website they have created. The blank white page you were expereincing is a result of the destination site's masking prevention measures. Turning off the masking would result in the forwarding working properly.

In regards to the extra characters that are being added to domains that are forwarding, those are related to a security protocol caused by networks detecting high-volume activity or DDOS-like activity in the path between a computer and the website it's trying to access. When customers see those extra letters, it means that whatever was requesting the site, wasn't able to properly respond to the forwarding server in order to get their traffic to be cleared.

I hope that helps!
